Hospitalist Program

Working with the staff of Rhode Island's finest hospitals including Lifespan members, Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital, our patients get the kind of care they have come to expect from Coastal Medical primary care physicians led by Dr. Mattingly. His leadership has led to the development of a hospital-based program, which is second to none.

Dedicated to providing the highest level of care to all patients at all times, Coastal Medical has specialized physicians whose primary focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients.

At the time of admission to the hospital, the primary-care physician provides the hospital-based physician patient current clinical information through detailed communication of the patient's past medical history. The Coastal Primary Care physician remains informed and involved during the patient's hospital stay. At time of discharge there is a formal care- plan arrangement of discharge, follow-up care, medication changes and expected time frame for outpatient care.

While primary-care physicians have a more long-standing relationship with patients, the hospital-based physicians have a unique insight into the current illness. Working together the flow of information between the hospital-based physicians and the office-based providers lead to the best possible care.
